Working in a school district that was run by the California Teachers Union was a very stressful experience. I was constantly made to feel that I could not go to my administration for help in the classroom. I was never independently heard by my administration because we were required to go through the union. This created a clear divide between our staff and administration. I felt that we did not have the common understanding that we were there to do what is right for students. I felt that professional growth was not made important and my ability to be innovative was diminished. Paying a monthly fee to the union is unreasonable for the amount of support they provided teachers. I never once felt supported by the union. Here at Clovis, our student’s success is at the forefront of every employee in the district.
